Biography

Wanrudee Buranakorn is an educator and an artist working with photography and book arts.  She received an MFA in Book Arts and an MFA in Photography, both from the University of Alabama. She has taught photography and book arts at the University of Alabama, Ohio University, Ringling School of Art and Design, the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie, and Penland School of Crafts.

Her photographic work employs varieties of alternative printing processes including silver liquid emulsion (Liquid Light), cyanotype, van dyke, kallitype, and platinum, in addition to traditional gelatin silver prints and digital.  Her work has been exhibited nationally in a number of galleries and museums including the Center for Photographic Art, the San Francisco Public Library, Stanford University, the University of California at Santa Cruz, Womanmade Gallery, the Atlanta Artist Center, Penland Gallery, the Hickory Museum of Art, the University of Miami, Selby Gallery, the Sarah Moody Gallery of Art, Bare Hands Gallery, Ignition Gallery, and the Kentuck Museum.  Her photographs have also been selected for the cover work of four books published by the University of Alabama press.

Her artist’s books, under the imprint of Romfang Press, incorporate hand printed photographic images and letterpress printing.  Her work is in the collection of the University of Alabama’s Book Arts program and the Hoole Rare Books Special Collections Library.  Her limited-edition book of platinum images of Buddhism in Thailand by Ben Simmons is in the private collection of the King of Thailand.
